Person Centred Living Philosophy
At Dundurn Place Care Centre, we recognize and value each Resident as an individual, with unique strengths and preferences, and as a citizen with rights and influence.
We place equal importance on the emotional, social, spiritual, and cultural well-being of residents, alongside their physical and mental well-being. Our environment is founded on kindness and guided by an emotion-focused approach to care, ensuring Residents live with their self-defined dignity, autonomy, purpose, and security. We intentionally prioritize meaningful connection and dignity over task-oriented routines, recognizing that how care is delivered is just as important as the care itself. Our services are based on best practice models and delivered with compassion, presence, and respect.
We strive to create a warm, welcoming, home-like environment that is reflective of Residents’ preferences and personalities.
We encourage Residents to set personal goals, to stay connected and active within, and outside, the home. As members of a collective community, we welcome external partners into the home to support the well-being of Residents.
Our approach to care services:
-
is interprofessional and collaborative, engaging residents, families, and team members in decision-making that reflects resident preference and needs;
-
is grounded in emotion-focused, person-centred principles that prioritize relationship, connection, and dignity over routines and tasks;
-
aims to maximize and maintain the independence of Residents and includes the Restorative Care Philosophy;
-
values continuity of care and the Primary Care model, fostering meaningful and stable relationships between Residents and team members across all roles.
At Dundurn Place Care Centre, we recognize and value each team member as a unique individual beyond their role and title.
Our team members work with dignity, autonomy, respect for diversity, individual choice, purpose, and security, while fostering kindness, mindfulness, and authentic connection in all interactions. We support a culture where presence and relationship-building are prioritized alongside clinical excellence.
We support personal and professional growth through ongoing education, training, and resources, including development in emotion-focused and relationship-based care practices.
We encourage team members to share their stories and talents with Residents to enhance meaningful interactions and build trust, whilst maintaining therapeutic boundaries.
We seek and value feedback from Residents, team members, and families to continually strengthen our commitment to ethical, emotion-focused, person-centred living.
Our commitment to Person Centred Living aligns with our Vision to create communities of trust and fulfillment for our team members and Residents; our Mission to live a culture of distinction through our commitment to the well-being of team members and Residents; our Values of Kindness: Lead with Kindness, Progressive: Take Initiative, Integrity: Do What’s Right, Community: Achieve Together; and our mantra of Connected Through Kindness.

Residents' Council
The Resident Council is made up of and represents all of the residents in our Home. The Council serves as a vehicle through which residents maintain a degree of control over their lives, share in the management of the Home and thereby contribute to the welfare of all involved.
The Council meets on a regular basis. During these meetings residents can voice their concerns or address any other issues. This forum allows residents the opportunity to network, share information and keep abreast of any new or upcoming changes happening in the Home.
Residents’ Council meets monthly in the Main Dining Room. Meeting minutes are available from the Programs Department.
